The Backstory on the Latest Celeb-Hairstylist Dynamic Duo: Chanté Adam and Derick Monroe

Every good glam squad story starts somewhere. Here’s the backstory on the latest dynamic duo working together to make some good-hair magic.

Derick Monroe

For Emmy-nominated celeb stylist Derick Monroe the essential must-do step for any style is hair health: “The first look was for Chanté Adam’s House of Gucci premiere and the second (in blue) was for an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show to promote Journal for Jordan. The looks were inspired by Chanté’s desire for a healthy change, as her hair was damaged from overstyling during press junkets.”

As Monroe explains, this was the duo’s first time working together and they were ready to get creative together: “We leaned into the trendy bob, but went super blunt to keep it modern. I love this look because it was all about Chanté’s hair and celebrating her new cut. My go-to tool was the L’Oréal Professionnel Steampod to show off the health of her hair, body and shine.

After a quick shampoo and condition, I used a leave-in conditioner prior to blow-drying with a paddle brush to maintain her hair health. I then went in the with the Steampod, taking the hair into smaller sections to straighten, beginning at the root to get it sleek without damage. I added a few spritz of setting spray to make sure her natural hair wouldn’t revert from the humidity and finished the look with a small amount of hair polish to smooth and give that glass shine.”
